Keeping Tradition

I remember when I was small, Larry and I would eagerly await the Wish Book arriving in the mail each fall. Once it arrived in our mailbox at Rt. 4 Box 724 time stood still. I can vividly see in my memory both of us lying on the Picadilly orange carpet in the living room carefully turning each page that was full of Christmas goodness. After the first look through, we both scattered to find paper and pencils to begin the all important wish list making. For some reason, each year, I always made sure to include the white leather ice skates at the top. It didn't matter that I lived in South Louisiana and we never once, in all the years I lived there, experienced enough ice to ice skate. They were present on EVERY list for about 10 years. When making the list, there was no limit. Mom wasn't telling us the items weren't reasonable or that they were too expensive, it was dreaming at its best. Love Story Monday

A dear friend of mine is hosting a link-up on her blog about love stories. She has asked friends to share their own love stories. So, here it goes.... In the spring of 1996, I was a junior in college in Louisiana. During my time in college, became involved with the Baptist Student Union on campus. This became my social hub and provided me with friendships and a place to wind down. I was introduced to the summer missionary program the year before while studying at a different college and was eagerly anticipating participating in the upcoming summer. In order to participate, I had to apply and go through an interview process. At some point in this process, I was given a list of possible missionary assignments and was asked to choose my top 3 choices of placement. My top choice was Australia. Baby Of Mine

Dear Baby of Mine, Oh sweet little life, that was mine for only a moment. Not a second of any day goes by without my thoughts drifting to you and the life that could have been. There are days where the thoughts come quickly and pass without emotion, and there are day where they hang like the dark clouds before a storm. Today would have been your fourth birthday. You would have shared it with your Momee Carole, Daddy's mom. We would have had cake and presents and balloons. You may have even enjoyed the turnip green dinner we had tonight - between you and me - I did not. The greens that your dad threw on my plate stayed there all night long. There's a long list of people who would have loved to meet you. Your cousins, Sophie and Sadie, would have been the most excited I'm sure.
