2012

Well, the New Year has arrived without much fanfare at my house.  Believe it or not, I spent most of NYE grading papers that I have put off until the last two days of break.  Go figure.  I think many teachers do that because we don't want to admit that vacation is almost over.

The last two years I haven't made any formal resolutions, but I focused on words.  I chose one word for each year and tried to make the word the theme for the year.  I would love to tell you that it worked out beautifully, but I often forgot my word in the busyness of the year.  A lot happened this past year that took my attention, so  not a lot was accomplished.

This year, I've chosen two words: CREATE and TIME.  Honestly, they should be together because I need to create more time in my schedule.

After switching schools this past year, I sacrificed A LOT of time that I usually spent on myself.  My work day begins with me leaving the house at 6:00 to arrive at work at 6:30ish and then I work most days until 6:30pm.  By the time I got home, I was exhausted and wouldn't have time to do anything.  I spent the time at home grading papers, planning the next day, laundry, and eating supper.  Needless to say, after 18 weeks of that routine, I'm exhausted.

So, this year, I am going to commit to making time for myself.  With that being said, I plan on finishing my day at school with students and exercising at 3:00 in my room or on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Then, I'll finish up for the day.  My goal is to leave between 4:30-5:00, thus giving me more time.

Over the past few years, I've lost my time to create.  I love to get my hands dirty in crafting and I haven't done much lately.  For Christmas I made my niece letters that spelled her name to hang in her room and I got the itch.  I would like to dabble in all sorts of crafting this year and can't wait to get started.

On another note, I want to write more.  I've committed to a blog challenge to journal EVERY day of the year.  This is the ultimate goal!  I'll be using this blog (my personal one) to journal and all things classroom related will be moved to my classroom blog.

And the year would not be complete without my reading goal for the year.  I haven't made a goal in the last 3 years or so because I had other things that received my attention (master's degree, national boards, new school).  This year, I've set my goal at 100 books.  That's about 2 a week!  If I get behind, I'll catch up on summer break.  I can't wait to discover new books this year.  If you know any, let me know!

Happy 2012!

Wow! I love your plans. I read 57 books last year. I'm actually going to cut back so I can concentrate on teaching my son. What's your classroom blog? Happy 2012
